UN Secretary-General's message for World TB Day stresses the need for greater commitment
The theme for this year's World TB Day 2006 is Actions for life: towards a world free of tuberculosis. The thematic focus for World TB Day is built on the Global Plan to Stop TB advocacy strategy, key messages and action points, and uses the report subtitle Actions for Life: towards a world free of tuberculosis, as a basis for campaign development.
Solidarity towards TB sufferers
Statement issued by the VATICAN CITY, 22 March, 2006 (VIS) - At the end of today's general audience, which was held in St. Peter's Square, the Pope recalled that Friday, 24 March, is World TB Day, an annual United Nations initiative to combat tuberculosis.
This is, said the Holy Father, "an appropriate occasion to call for renewed commitment at the global level, that the necessary resources may be made available to cure our sick brothers and sisters, who often also live in situations of great poverty. I encourage the initiatives of assistance and solidarity towards them, hoping that they may always be guaranteed dignified conditions of life."
