On 9 February 2026, the third and final stakeholder workshop for the project “Strengthening of the National Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Framework in Greece” will be convened by the European Commission’s Reform and Investment Task Force (SG REFORM) through its Technical Assistance and Information Exchange (TAIEX) instrument, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Greece, WHO/Europe and the WHO Office on Quality of Care and Patient Safety in Athens.
Taking place in Athens, the workshop will present the final versions of the updated methods and process guides. The guides were piloted during a national assessment of a new medicinal product, with contributions from patient and clinical experts. The workshop will provide an opportunity for peer learning from other leading HTA agencies from the WHO European Region including the Italian Medicines Agency (AIFA), the Italian National Agency for Regional Healthcare Services (AGENAS) and the Portuguese National Institute of Pharmacy and Medicines (INFARMED). It will also initiate discussions on establishing an HTA framework for medical devices and in vitro diagnostics in Greece.
Throughout the project, the revision of Greece’s HTA methods and process guidance has been informed by continuous engagement with all relevant stakeholders, including patient representatives, clinical experts, industry partners and academics. Input gathered through earlier workshops and technical consultations has helped ensure that the updated guidance reflects a broad range of perspectives and practical experience.
The updated national HTA framework for Greece is aligned with the European Union Regulation (EU) 2021/2282 on HTA and draws on practices used across the WHO European Region. Its implementation is supported by an updated legal framework and amendments to national policies and systems. The framework aims to strengthen transparent, consistent and evidence-informed decision-making within Greece’s health system.
Meeting details
The meeting will bring together a broad range of stakeholders including Greek government agencies, patient advocacy groups, industry associations, academic institutions, peer HTA agencies, the European Commission, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and WHO. The event will feature presentations, moderated discussions and interactive sessions, facilitating dialogue and knowledge exchange among participants.
